Joel Burns' civic and professional activities include work with Kiwanis International, Boys and Girls Clubs of Baldwin County, and Habitat for Humanity of Baldwin County. He is one of the founding fathers of Boys and Girls Clubs of Baldwin County and has been a board member since its inception in 1988. He also works with the First Presbyterian Church and volunteers with the PTA at Southside Middle School and Boddie Middle School.
Laura Burns has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, visited nursing homes and the Old Veterans Home with church groups. She has been the Head of the Community Service Committee for the First Presbyterian Church, organized donation drives and Relay for Life for the Church, and has helped to collect and deliver food donated to the food pantry for the Department of Children and Family Services. As the Head of the Local Mission Committee at her Church, Laura has created food packs, which are small meals that can be given to people who stop by the church and are in need of food, and helped with the church's prison family lunch ministry, hosting and providing a meal to the families of inmates in nearby prisons as they visit their loved ones. She is also a board member of the Baldwin and Jones County Boys and Girls Club and of the Milledgeville Kiwanis Club, and has participates in Kiwanis fundraising events.
